Thanks for your help. I believe this issue is resolved.

I found the same problem.  The code missing is the "else" which means that both $value and $POST are echoed together. I noticed that "else" not missing elsewhere, so I'm guessing this was removed because of this sometimes being a "password" field.  So rather than just putting the "else" back it might be better to check it's not a password field.
